Why is haste better than crit?
This is a hotly debated subject, and really the answer boils down to your choice of eclipse. But first, the conversions. At 80, the conversion of crit/1% is 45.91 rating per 1%. For haste it’s 32.79/1%. Here you see that haste is cheaper to itemize for.
For reference sake: Solar = Wrath proc of eclipse. Lunar = Starfire proc of eclipse
The reason I say eclipse is the factor is due to the new solar side of eclipse. Another buff was made to it to make it fall closer in line dps wise with Lunar eclipse. However, due to Wrath’s cast time, you hit a haste wall much much much quicker than you do with Starfire. For a Solar rotation, your haste cap is 400 haste assuming you have Celestial Focus, Improved Moonkin Form talented, and a Wrath of Air Totem. 400 is also while under the effects of Nature’s Grace. For every point after 400, crit becomes more valuable.
For Lunar, haste still scales a bit better than crit due to not only eclipse’s effect on SF, but it’s cast time as well. The haste cap for Starfire is much much higher and can only be reached in very extreme circumstances.
