What is a FAQ? Frequently Asked Questions.
After playing WoW for about 40 hours, these are some of the questions I hear
over and over and over, ad infinatum, ad nauseum...ah, you get it.

In addition, I've added some things that I wished I knew right from the
beginning, a newb guide if you will. At the end of this guide is a summary
sheet that will try to put on one page the main shortcuts.

This guide does not talk about character creation, do that on your own.

---------
---001--- NAVIGATION
---------

The basic thing to remember about left and right click is:

Left to check, Right to react

Lclick Rclick
---------------------------------------------------------------
people select,identify converse
items select use
at stores select buy immediately

When you have more than one of a smaller item, they will stack.
To choose a portion of a stack, SHIFT-Lclick to open the amount box
You can use this at stores too, SHIFT-Lclick to choose amount to buy

---------
---002--- THE ACTION BAR
---------

There are actually 6 "pages" of the action bar.
I like to set the different pages for different situations (i.e.
page1 is for battles:attacks, buffs and page2 is for my skills:
leatherwork, cooking, etc)

You can use the SHIFT+1 thru 6 or SHIFT+wheelmouse to scroll through all 6.

Lclick and drag to set a skill or useable item in the action bar.

---------
---003--- CHAT
---------

Why are you playing this online if you aren't going to interact with other
people? If you aren't going to speak to others, play Morrowind or Baldur's
Gate.

=To talk to everyone in the channel: "Say:" or /S
This is the default. If you haven't started Party chatting, you
will automatically start talking to everyone.

Press ENTER to start text entry
Type your message to everyone in the channel just type and enter.

This message will white and will appear on your own chat log.

=To talk to only one person: "Whisper:" or /W

Press ENTER to start chat entry
Type /w (name of person) SPACE (your message) ENTER

The text window will automatically change to "whisper" when you
press space after you type the person's name.

This message will be sent only to that person & will not show on
your log if it is the first message you send to the person.
Thereafter it will be pink.

Or you can pick someone from the Chat Log to speak to privately:
Double click the person's name in the Chat Log.

The text window will automatically open to the person's name in
whisper mode.

This message will be sent only to that person and will not show on
your log if it is the first message you send to the person.
Thereafter it will be pink.

=To respond to the last whispered message: /R
Type /R (your message) ENTER
or you can simply press R and the text box will open with the
person's name.
This message will be sent only to that person & will show on your
log.

=To speak to your party/group only: /P
Type /P (your message) ENTER

The text will be blue and will show up on your log.

=silly things
On the left of the dialog box, at the top is speech bubble.
You can access different strange actions for others to see.
under SPEECH you can audibly say things.
under EMOTE you can dance, point, laugh, cry, etc.

In summary

ALL : ENTER (your text) ENTER
PRIVATE : ENTER /W (name) SPACE (your text) ENTER
REPLY : R (your text) ENTER
PARTY : ENTER /P (your text) ENTER
(or simply ENTER text ENTER if you are already in party chat)

or access everything through the side bar on the dialog box

---------
---004--- CHARACTER PANEL
---------

SHIFT-Lclick on any bag to open all of them at once or SHIFT-B
(useful for finding something quickly)

Rclick on any useable armor or weapon to auto-equip it
(instead of dragging it from your bags)

The modifiers on certain items affect you in these ways:
+strength : increases your attack and defense
+agility : increases your armor, dodging, critical hitting
+stamina : hit points
+intelligence: mana points
+spirit : regeneration rate for HP/mana

---------
---005--- TALENT PANEL
---------

Your talents are specific to your class and are not switchable or untrainable.
When you level, you will be granted Talent Points which you can allocate to
the different talents you have. You won't be able to level every talent all
the way so I would choose carefully. You may be able to master one category
and half of another if you're lucky.

---------
---006--- SKILLS PANEL
---------

Weapon Skill: Just use that weapon. Whatever weapon skill you want to improve,
you just have to keep using it.

Trade Skill (2): These are the ones you can untrain if you want to switch.
Remember that you will start from zero if you want to switch
back to a skill you left. For example, you are level 99 in
Alchemy and change to Skinning. If you quit Skinning and go
back to Alchemy, you will return to Alchemy level 1. sux.

You can have 2 skills so choose wisely. You probably won't
want to change them so keep them for life. You will be able
to create greater things as you level.

There are 2 types of trade skills, Gathering and Production.
Logically, the Production depends on the Gathering.

Gathering Skill Recommended Production Skill
--------------------------------------------------
Skinning Leatherworking
Mining Engineering or Blacksmithing
Herbalism Enchanting or Alchemy

Loot First Aid
Loot Tailoring

Make sure you drag the Skill icon to your Action Bar for easy
access.

When creating items with your skill, they will be colored.
This indicates whether it will increase your skill or not.

Red : you cannot make this item
Orange: making this item will always increase skill lvl
Yellow: making this item will sometimes increase skill lvl
Green : making this item will rarely increase skill lvl
Gray : making this item will never increase skill lvl

---------
---007--- MOVEMENT
---------
A couple of obvious things to remember

x toggle sitting or standing
you regen faster while sitting
you can only do some actions while standing

NumLock toggle auto-running
Don't forget pressing NUMLOCK toggles auto-run. Use your
fingers to chat instead. Your autorun will be cancelled if you
press forward or backward but not if you press right, left or
strafe in either direction.

---------
---008--- MISC
---------

Thanks to Blizzard for many sleepless nights. I hate you all. ;)
Thanks to an often not-really-that-indepth game manual.
Thanks to all the players that lent a helping hand here and there.

---------
---009--- FOR MORE INFO...
---------

For more info...read the game manual. Sheesh! Well, I admit, it's not *that*
helpful at times. If you see me around, hit me up with a whisper. I'm usually
in Shadowsong under Sophirra.

How do you finish xyz quest? Where do I find xyz? How do I kill xyz?
Figure it out. Meet a couple of people and do it together. It's A LOT easier
when you take on quests together. There are too few hours in the day for me
to write a FAQ about every quest for every race.

If you want to suggest something that you had trouble with when *you* were
once a newb, you can send me comment at cjunn [at] hotmail [dot] com.

Do not copy for other than personal use.
