Mini UBRS Guide

By:
Psytec

I have run this instance so many times now I thought I should put in writing all those painful raid warnings and comments.

If you are intending to run UBRS or are about to then maybe a print of this guide may help… I’m sure many books, blogs and online guides will fill in the gaps.

I apologize for stating my tactics in advance, UBRS can be done many ways and mine are just one of them, I find it works and I regularly guide groups (guild and pug) to the final boss.

UBRS is a 10 man dungeon instance, at level 60 it requires a full 10 man group to complete. The group has to consist of a certain makeup to increase success rate (it can be tweaked a lot), usual 2 priests, 2 warriors, 2 mages and 1 hunter are a core to success but all classes have their place and are needed.

Because UBRS is a high end dungeon and the 1st real raid instance the drops and quests are very worth while and most players will run this instance many times for the drops, specifically the Dungeon Set 0 (another post on forum) gear of which parts drop in the instance, other guides will tell you by whom and where but the main point of interest is the chest item that drops on the final boss (Drakki), there are also many other great drops in UBRS to make it worth while and it’s great fun too.

To enter UBRS you need to head to the instance entrance, you need to fly (or walk, run mount) to burning steps and head south into blackrock mountain through the door, then turn left and run up the small hill towards the chain crossing the cavern, instead of going right to BRD etc go left and fall off the edge of the chain onto the ledge then work your way around the back of the giant statue to the right, keep working along the ledge and jump over the gap onto the veranda, to your left is the BRS entrance portal. It is worth working your way along the right hand side until you reach an orb, slightly back from this is a corridor at the end of the corridor is a mini boss, kill him and he drops a quest for BWL (Black wing lair) attunement, killing Drakki will complete your attunement.

Once the entire group is ready outside the entrance and all buffed up the guild leader should give out instructions, I usually mark and MT (Main Tank) so give out instructions such as Red cross is MT all on MT unless asked otherwise, blue moon is sheep 1, blue square is sheep 2, yellow star it OT (off tank) etc, if you are given instructions then please remember this is your Job to fulfill failure could cause wipes.

The leader should ask for anyone to say if they haven’t been to UBRS, answer honestly the raid can /with you with supportive comments.

At all times follow the leaders instructions, they are leading because they know the instance well, not just for the opportunity to feel big, unless you have been asked you should NEVER pull ANY mobs.

AOE (area of effect spells) should NEVER be done unless the leader pre-warns, they can easily tag mobs.

Hunters need to keep pets on passive and target mobs to fight, also need to refrain from those look easy pulls.

It is important you fight the need to go and have a look around the next corner, even with stealth etc, some mobs in instances can detect movement etc, stay back and with the group, don’t try and stand away from them, you could be near a mob and risk being kicked or feared into them, always stay where you have already cleared, never move into an area you have not been guided too.

Everyone has a job in the high end instances, be clear you understand your need and focus on that primary need, there is no point trying to tank a mob with a mage or dps with a priest it’s not your job (obviously sometimes a change is needed and warranted).

You may get frustrated with the speed of progress sometimes (too fast or too slow), usually this is so newer players can learn the instance, mana can be back to 100%, people need toilets, drinks, cigs or just a pause, it is very un-cool to moan about it, the leader sets the pace I’m afraid, if you must moan then with the leader do not complain in the group window it will cause tension.

Experimenting is not good, do not click anything you don’t know what it does, doors, keys, chests, eggs, pillars etc some have terrible consequences, I know the gold cog usually reveals reward, but don’t be tempted.

Once instructions have been given the leader will ask for the group to enter

On entering the instance a few (easy) mobs will guard the way to the door, the MT should mark and give a warning before starting, I give a 5 sec warning before mob fights.

In the first room, mob of 2/3 on left then 2/3 on right then a walking patrol comes through this room, patrols are usually known by the leader so the leader should time the fight, sometimes even this early in the instance blue drops happen so good luck and don’t ninja a need unless you really need it, just hit greed or pass.

Once these mobs are cleared walk up the left or right stairs, and move to the left side (the right side is LBRS), the door ahead is UBRS, this door is locked and the only way to open it is to have the key.

The Key, the key to UBRS is a ring, it requires a quest chain to be completed, it is a long and hard quest, the good news is that only 1 of the raid party needs the key (I have it) and they can open the door, the key needs 3 gems from bosses in LBRS and an adjournment seal, these need to be fused by a mind controlled epic dragon which is why not so many people have it.

Once the door is opened the true fun can begin.

I ask people to stay at the bottom of the stairs and wait, I will then go up the steps and mark 2 dragons with MT and OT, warn and pull them back to the bottom of the stairs, same again with either a single patrol then with the final 2 (5 dragons in total), in this fight hit the MT mark and stay at the bottom of the stairs.

I then ask people to move to me (‘to you’ is not a funny reply btw) and you will move into the next room, this room has smaller rooms on both sides so stay in the middle and look for the leaders marks to face in the right direction, I usually mark, MT, OT, SHEEP here.

The group has to clear every side room in here 1 at a time, once the room is cleared a fire lights in the room, once all rooms are done the next door opens so the group can move on.

It’s very important to take out the summoners quickly, I mark the summoners with MT and OT, tanks can shield bash to stop them summoning (rogues can kick too), most rooms are a similar makeup but the last one has 2 more mobs, it is important you stay clear of the last room with it’s 2 guards they are easy to tag.

Once all the rooms are empty the door opens and looks tempting to plough on in, don’t wait in this area, if you enter the door you can easily pull the next group and all it’s agro, nobody will see and the summoner will create summons (bad!), so wait for the leader to mark and pull them into the open room using los (line of sight).

GJ! 1st bit done...

Ok .. now the first boss (exciting stuff)

Move through the door, up the stairs and into the room with the captured flame boss in the center, move over to the pillar at the bottom of the ramp and DON’T click it.

I now ask for AOE’s to ready, when 3 or 4 people click the pillar all the people guarding the fire boss will run to the pillar, AOE and hit them to death, rest quickly, the MT and OT will head onto the podium and wait for boss to free, ML (master looter) should be switched on by now, wait until MT and OT get 3 sunders and pound the boss, healers should heal MT on the 3 sunder count (maybe OT too).

GJ! 1st boss done...

ML will now be done, I say how many drops and do 1 at a time, then give a 5-10 second count down for needs, then I’ll say winner or all greed (feel free to /roll on greed), hopefully you got something you need.

All rest up and prepare for next room, DO NOT enter the next room, it has mobs and is full of eggs that if you go near them they burst open and release 3 or 4 dragons, if this happens AOE them.

Casters should stay on podium others in front of door, MT will pull 2 dragons into this room, wait for 1/2 sunders then casters let loose, same again for other dragons.

Once these 2 mobs are complete the group can move on, You have a choice here, you can complete the egg room and kill the boss or skip it and do it after Drakki has been destroyed, most groups I go with skip this part, but here it is for your benefit.

AOE’s (Area of effect) need to work their way down the left hand side until you reach a red crystal, then cross the room and all stand in the far corner, the AOE’s need to clear eggs in the corner and around the crystal, the tank can open the eggs and pull back, once a good area is cleared, click the crystal and mobs start coming, kill the egg openers 1st and always fight in the corner they open so many eggs it can be a problem, once 6-7 mob pairs have been killed the boss comes, tank and kill, the drops are not too good in my experience but it can drop a needed priest set item.

Move to the opposite side and up the ramp, 2 dragons are at the top, MT and OT them but watch out for the patrol to the right. Once down take the 2 patrol mobs, a man and a dragon (wait patiently and do both), you can now move down the ledge ignoring the 1st ramp and tackle the mobs at the end, 3 dragons, MT the fire one and take it down 1st, if you can sleep one dragon then great, if not OT both.

Now the bit I dislike pulling, all stand with backs to the wall for the next fights, the people that are pulled can kick you off the edge into the eggs and you will most likely die (let the priest rez from the ledge, do not pull the dragons back to the group as their will be many of them).

The next pull can be a bit random, usually contains 2 fire dragons and a 3rd, sometimes can be 4 dragons and in extremely bad pulls can be 4 people 2!, the tank should keep pulling mobs back to the group standing against the wall, sheep helps as does dragon sleep.

Once the top of the ramp is clear move up, to the left many people with a boss, to the right is the arena, you can skip the boss, but here it is anyway : take each mob group at a time with sheep, OT and MT, once the final right hand mob is left then try to pull this group back using line of sight on the right, you may pull the boss, if you do then kill the boss quickly, some quests for this and also a chest piece can be on the back wall. A chest may be in this room so look for it.

Now turn around and head for the arena, take the right hand 2 dragons first, the left hand dragons (fire one 1st please) start a chain of attacks, so the next fights should all be hear, kill the 2 dragons and the chain starts, let the MT go up the right stairs and pull back the roaming groups to the bottom of the stairs, then all wait for the mob at the top of the left stairs to come down, kill these then the next roaming mob, now move up the right hand stairs and kill the 2 dragons at the top.

You are now left overlooking the arena, some things you should now know and do, 1st of all sit 2 males in the chairs and nominate one as the queen cause it’s funny, all buff up you will need it, all 100% mana and rest, hunters should dismiss pets as when you jump down they can choose to take the long route and bring a lot of mobs with them.

It is important that you fight in the middle as you can tag a group of over lookers and the mobs behind the gate at the back, if you do this after the fight starts the gates will all be locked and the instance can’t be progressed!!, seriously this happened to me once when a hunter used the multi shot and one shot off up to the crowd and wiped us and the instance!, we tried for ages to work out a way through but it was no good, the gates were closed and the arena fight disabled.

The fight will go like this, you will fight 6-7 mobs each has a dragon and sometimes a handler with 3 tiny flying dragons, you need to watch the priest with these as they spit fire and ice, they come 1 set at a time and from the large gate at the end, rest when you can as you will need your mana for the bosses (that’s right bosses), then a large dragon will come, usual tank and heal stuff, but watch out for the ice blast and kick that can leave the tank frozen for a while, when the dragon is down to low health then rend will appear, take him out too, once both dragon and rend are down then loot and share your doing well, the gate will open at the end of the arena to let you move on.

The MT can mark and pull the mobs beyond the gate back to the arena, watch for the rogues as they can stun the MT and cause problems, also kill the summoners first. Once the mobs beyond the gate are cleared all move in, the MT can then begin to pull the mobs down from the room at the top of the left set of stairs (ignore the right set), the mobs from the room at the top are dragons and some others including those nasty rogues, also look out for the sneaky one who is in stealth mode, once clear all move up the stairs, clear the 2 mobs to the left towards the BWL portal (Black wing lair), as this will avoid nasty accidental tags in the next fights.

Usual pause, 100% health, mana etc also check buffs, the MT will then pull from the room at the bottom of the stairs leading down, a few single pats, and a set of groups, all mobs in this room should be pulled apart from the larger mob in the furthest right hand corner, leave these for later, once the room is clear all move down the stairs and keep left jump over the fires and into the Beasts lair.

Over in the corner you will see the giant beast, this is a tough fight, with a good MT can tank and taunt the beast but will receive a lot of damage so keep the MT well healed and if the MT is kicked into the air let the agro be regained, casters should keep a distance from the beast and hit it hard, the beast drops some interesting items, but the main one is for skinners who can get a +5 skinning knife.

Once the beast has been slaughter move back to the other room with the large mob remaining in the corner, this fight is a real tough one, it is critical you use cc (crowd control) to manage this fight, you NEED to take the 2 fire dragons 1st, MT on one OT on other, sometimes kiting the large dragon is needed too, also make sure you pull back from the entrance to the bridge as some mobs can be tagged if you fight too close.

Wow you are doing well, but the hard bits are now upon us, fight in this room for the next mobs the MT can pull them back, 1st wrap up the mobs on the left and right of the bridge start, the MT should be able to use line of sight to pull them into the room, then the MT can pull the mob (all 4 come together) from the opposite side of the bridge back to the room.

Now the fun bit, stay in this room and 100% mana, health and buff, the next mobs are very hard, the MT can pull them back across the bridge, there is a patrol in the Drakki room on the other side of the bridge, leave this for the 2nd fight and be careful not to pull it, mark the group opposite the bridge and pull them back to the group, make sure you take out the fire dragon first, and use crowd control to slaughter the group, then do the same for the patrol.

Now everyone should move across the bridge into Drakki’s lair, once in the room mark up and kill the mob to the left then move to their location and have the MT pull the group in the far corner through the rocks back to the group, same crowd control, fire dragons 1st strategy for this bit.

Well done you are now at the final boss Drakki, you can move along the back wall and get him in sight, he is guarded by a dragon on each side, mark the right one as MT and the left one as OT then mark Drakki for hunter kite (I use green arrow).

Obviously check, health, mana, buffs, soul stones etc.

I find that the most successful Drakki kills I have done have all been using the kite technique, you will need a good hunter.

Hunter instructions, Make sure you have aspect of the Cheetah on. If you don't have it on, you will have a much harder time of it, and will probably get conflagged). Swtich on Track Dragonkin (so you can see where he and the guards are while you are running away). Tell everyone else to avoid hitting him as he leaves the room. Place freeze trap on bridge, Go back, warn the group your pulling then pull with an Aimed Shot/Distracting Shot Combo (use both because one might miss and cause a wipe). Make sure you stop when the trap is fired on the bridge and zap him with Arcane or Distracting Shot as soon as he is in range (I keep hitting the key until it goes off), and then turn quickly and run to the beast's room (using the mouse to turn and move is essential here). Jump over the flames at the entrance to the beast room to avoid being slowed (Beast room is far enough). Run into the far end of the cave. When Drak enters the cave, Feign Death and then follow him back (keeping your distance). Stop to tell the other raid members where he is, so that they are prepared for his entrance.

If you do this, then the rest of the raid should be ready to engage and he is pretty easy to kill.

But... sometimes things go wrong. The worst thing that can happen is that the MT dies when Drak is close to death and the rest of the party starts getting owned.

In this case quickly Feign Death to take yourself out of combat. You should be standing by the door where you came back from the kite. Then drink and eat quickly. As soon as the last party member is about to die, Aimed Shot Draki and kite him again. This time unload with everything you have. Keep a Serpent Sting on him, and use Arcane, Auto and Multi shot as much as you can *shoot them, run out of range, shoot them again).

If you have reasonable luck with crits, you can finish Draki off and the rest of the raid will rez to find you dancing on his corpse somewhere in the vicinity of the beast's room.

The MT should keep as much agro as possible; all the casters need to stand well back, keep the MT well healed and healers should also lookout for Drakki’s very dangerous dot that seriously damages over time and sends the MT into a frenzy, the fight will take a while but eventually Drakki will lie down.

Congratulations, you now have a chance of getting your chest piece for Dungeon set 1, and so do 1 of the others, so if your unlucky and need to run the instance again at least you know a strategy.
