WoW Ninja Looting Tips

“Ninja looting” is a common term used within many massively-multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs) to describe the act of looting items from corpses, chests, and the game environment without permission.

This term predates World of Warcraft by many years, and was originally coined in virtual worlds that did not possess the same looting mechanics that are available in-game today. Because of how loot dropped in these other worlds — frequently in the form of free-for-all chests on the ground — it was possible for players to loot items they did not personally help generate. Stealing loot in this manner often required speed and subtlety, so the title “loot ninja” was born.

The World of Warcraft looting system was specifically designed so this sort of item theft cannot occur. In order for a player to loot an item, they must contribute to the corresponding kill or be a part of the group responsible for it. Players who do not meet these requirements will be ineligible for any loot that drops. As a result, players are only able to loot items they are entitled to own; they cannot “ninja” or steal loot directly from other players.

Tips to WoW Loot Settings

Group Loot

This is the default loot setting for all manually created groups, and Dungeon Finder runs before Outlands dungeons. For groups that use this setting, each player in the group will have an equal opportunity to roll on items that drop. This opportunity will be provided regardless of who opens the looting window, but will only apply to items that are equal to or above the set looting threshold. Details on threshold can be found below.

If an item equal to or above the looting threshold drops, all players within the group will have a pop-up box appear on their screen. Using this pop-up box, players can opt to roll:

How to preventing Guild Bank Theft in WoW

Setting Guild Bank Permissions

Permissions for your guild bank are set based on two things:
  1. The guild bank tab
  2. The guild rank.
In other words, each tab in the guild bank has individual permissions for each rank.
To set up your permissions, you will need to open your guild window and hit the Guild Control button at the bottom right (guild bank permissions can only be changed by the guild master, and cannot be changed for the guild master). This will open the guild control window.

WoW Northrend Guide 2012

How do I get to Northrend?

Alliance players travel to Northrend on ships that leave from Menethil Harbor and Stormwind Harbor. The Menethil ship takes you to Howling Fjord and the Stormwind ship takes you to Borean Tundra.

Horde players catch a zepplin just outside of Orgrimmar for Borean Tundra, or outside of Undercity for the Howling Fjord.

What is a Death Knight?

Death Knights are the game’s first “Hero Class.” You must have another character over level 55 to create a Death Knight. Rather than starting at level 1, Death Knights start at level 55. Death Knights do not replace existing characters and they are available to both factions. Unlike other classes in the game, you can only create one Death Knight per realm.

Optimize Your WoW GUI Select Top 8 Addons

Unlike most games, World of Warcraft allows users to make radical adjustments and additions to the game’s graphical user interface (GUI). For the most part, the default interface is pretty good, but it offers nowhere near the range of options and flexibility of many of the addons (also called mods) made by the community. These are some of the most useful of the hundreds of addons available for World of Warcraft. I may add to this list in the future so feel free to suggest your favorite addon in a comment.

Getting to Wintergrasp In WoW

Wintergrasp is a large PvP zone in Northrend (even on Normal servers) that sits between Dragonblight and Sholazar Basin. The zone’s central feature in Wintergrasp Fortress, which can be under either Alliance of Horde control. A battle takes place roughly every few hours where the faction that currently controls the Keep tries to defend it against the opposing faction. At this time there is no limit to the number of players on a server that can jump into these sieges, so they are the largest (and subsequently, laggiest) PvP encounters in the game.

Wintergrasp was introduced to the game as part of the Wrath of the Lich King Expansion. Let’s take a look at how it works.
